Background of the Study
Women entrepreneurs in Nigeria play a significant role in the country's economic development, particularly in the retail sector. In Yobe State, many women own and operate boutique businesses, contributing to employment and providing essential goods and services to the community. Despite the growing presence of women entrepreneurs, the challenge of business expansion remains prevalent. The need for effective business expansion strategies is critical, as it can lead to increased market reach, profitability, and business sustainability (Akinyemi & Olaniran, 2023).
Boutiques, which cater to clothing and fashion items, require strong marketing strategies, effective supply chain management, and financial planning to expand successfully. However, women entrepreneurs often face unique barriers, such as limited access to financing, gender biases, and insufficient networking opportunities, all of which impact their ability to grow their businesses (Nwankwo & Obi, 2023). This study will explore the business expansion strategies employed by women boutique owners in Yobe State, identify the challenges they encounter, and provide insights on effective strategies to enhance their growth and competitiveness.
Statement of the Problem
Many women-owned boutique businesses in Yobe State are unable to expand due to various challenges, including limited access to credit, inadequate business networks, and limited knowledge of advanced business strategies. The inability to access funds or develop strategies to scale up hinders their capacity to meet the growing demand for their products. Understanding these barriers and evaluating the strategies used by women entrepreneurs for expansion will offer valuable recommendations for improving their business practices and outcomes.
